Name: Hiding feelings
Pairing: Kyo x Tohru
Written For ANGIE. I hope you like it. If you want another story, lemme know.

"Dammit!" The door was opened to the home of Shigure, Yuki, and Kyo Sohma. Stepping through that doorway, the cat glared at the dark-haired rat. "Why the hell didnt you tell me that dinner would be done already?" Sharp eyes switched to focus on one Tohru Honda.
The girl smiled nervously. "Hi, Kyo." She paused, waiting to see if Yuki would say anything. When she realized he was being silent, and that Kyo was getting frustrated with his silence, she decided to answer his question. "Oh, Yuki and I were sure you'd be out for the night, seeing how Kagura wanted to go for a picnic with you and--"
"Picnic!?" Ears perked up from that orange hair as a matching tail accented his anger. "She didnt say anything about a damn picnic!"
"Please, stupid cat, Miss Honda and I are trying to eat." That quiet voice though his calmness didnt truly let on that true emotion. "So if you would--"
"KYO!" Kagura had entered the home in search of the Sohma cat. "Our dinner's all set up for us."
"I aint goin with you dammit, so leave me alone!"
The boar wasnt one to make angry. "Cmon Kyo, Lets go. I set up a great picnic for us and you're gonna eat it." A swift tug on his arm pulled him in the direction of the door, as the cat simply groaned, grabbing ahold of the doorway.
"I told ya I wasnt going!"
Heaving a heavy sigh, Yuki offered a gentle smile to Tohru. Excusing himself, he picked up his dishes and carried them into the kitchen to put them beside the sink. He figured that Tohru, if she decided to interfere with the new scene unfolding before them, would have much more important things to worry about than merely clearing the table.
It took Mii's interuption for Kagura to finally let go of the feline.
"Shigure!" The author's name was shoulted into the home. "SHIGURE!"
Hearing the calls, the dog entered the room. "Hello, Mii. I thought that was you."
Kagura, seeing no way for their picnic to work out, offered Kyo a sweet smile as she began to leave. "We can try again tomorrow, I guess. I can make time for our picnic whenever you're free." She may have sounded fair and understanding, but the other Sohmas knew better.
Arms were folded tightly over Kyo's chest till the girl was gone.
"Shigure, I..." Mii cut herself off as she saw Shigure leaving the room. Following him, her hopes picked up. "You're going to write now, right?"
The dog put a hand up to, sort of, silence her. "You really shouldnt worry so much, Mii." He paused, that hand lifting to his lips in thought. "In fact, I think if you didnt worry as much, your eyes wouldnt be so dark." He waited a moment, to see her reaction, then continued walking.
"My eyes?" Mii was about to cover them, but, once again, noticed that Shigure was leaving.
"Uh... Here, Kyo." Tohru returned from cleaning her own space, setting a plate of food down. "Since you and Kagura didnt get to eat yet. I thought you'd be hungry." I sure hope she gets something to eat, too. Sitting beside him, she was quietly watching him eat.
"Yeah." He paused, taking a bite. "I wouldnt have liked it, anyway... If Kagura made it. She doesnt cook like you."
"Thank you." That smile broadened.
"That's not what I meant." Kyo blushed softly, narrowed eyes realizing what she had gotten from the comment. "I just meant..." He groaned. "I'm used to your cooking." The Sohma looked away before eating again.
Tohru sighed. She was used to getting that sort of response from him. In fact, everyone was used to Kyo's behavior, even if they werent always around him. Poor Kyo. She thought. He never seems to be able to say whats on his mind. But, I guess it's just hard for him to talk about his feelings. I know what mom meant about talking making everything easier. She waited till he was done eating and reached for his plate.
"What are you doing?" His tone was soft, almost the opposite of what it had been moments before.
"I'm taking your things to the sink for you."
"You dont have to, ya know." He stood, shrugging.
Standing, she only smiled. "I dont mind. Besides, I can get the dishes cleaned quicker this way."
"Well, Ok. But just remember that I *can* do things for myself."
Nodding, Miss Honda moved to the kitchen, returning once the dishes were done. "Kyo?" Not being able to find him, she moved outside, looking up to the roof. "There you are."
Sitting up, the cat peered over the side of the roof, his gaze falling upon her as she made her way to join him. Clad in that brown jacket, he leaned back, resting on his elbows, watching her almost nervously. "Thanks, I guess."
"Huh?" Being caught off guard, she froze for a second before sitting with him. "If you dont mind me asking.. what are you thanking me for?"
"I just said thank you. Cant you just accept it without asking questions and making a big deal about it?" He looked away from her, not wanting her to be able to notice anything he didn't want her to know about.
He must be talking about dinner. "It was nothing, really. You're welcome." Tohru smiled again, making herself more comfortable. "I'm just happy you liked it."
"Yeah." Kyo returned his gaze, his emotionless features being tugged at by the smallest of smiles. "So..." The feline paused, thinking back to what he'd interrupted. "You... and that..." His voice hinted at, was it, jealousy? "Damn rat... were eating alone?" Even though that didn't sound too bad, he figured that he should, at least, try to make it seem more casual and friendly. "Why wasn't Shigure eating with you two?"
The girl blinked slowly. "He said that he would eat later." Truth was, she didn't know why Shigure wouldn't eat with them. Maybe he was writing, or just wasn't hungry. But, maybe, the dog was giving the two of them the privacy that they had, silently, asked for. "But I'm glad you joined us." Even if it did mean keeping you from Kagura's plans for the night.
Yuki, himself, had wandered outside in search of quiet solitude. Gentle eyes scanned that roof and stopped when he caught sight of the cat's stare that seemed to make him look ready to pounce if the rat didn't leave the area. "Calm down, Kyo..."
Her attention, which had, along with Kyo's, moved to Yuki, was instantly back on those orange ears. "Kyo?"
His stare slowly intensified as if trying to burn a hole in the poor rat as a low groan escaped his throat. "Calm down? What the hell are you doin out here?"
Yuki shrugged softly. "Nevermind." He would have went into detail about how he couldn't think with Mii hounding the author to keep working, but something about talking to Kyo about *thinking* didn't seem right to him. Also, there was something else bothering him, but that he couldn't tell him either. Returning to that doorway, he heard the calls of the dog's name, and sighed heavily before walking inside once more.
The cat, relaxing, lay back on the room, his arms folded over his chest. "I'm sorry." His voice had fallen to a softer tone again. "About that." How jealous had he seemed? It was almost like he'd been acting that way for a while. Yes, he normally fought with Yuki, but it was worse now. Kyo hated when he couldn't beat him, when his fanclub, and the entire student body, followed his every word, loved his every idea. But he really couldn't stand when he saw the two together. Tohru and *Yuki*... like he didn't have enough already... It just didn't seem fair that Yuki got everything, along with the one thing that Kyo really wanted. A low growl slipped from between slightly parted lips. He was back to being defensive, backing up his own actions. "But he shouldn't have come out her anyway... Its not like the house is crowded or anything."
Oh, Kyo. Tohru didn't know how to feel. Part of her wanted to say something, to make the whole situation more comfortable for the both of them. But the bigger part of her just wanted to be supportive and try to keep away from the awkward silences. "No need to apologize, really."
By the time she had finished speaking, Kyo had sat up, removed his coat, and placed it over her shoulders. "Is that better?"
She smiled, tightening the coat around herself and nodding. "Mhm. Thank y--"
A hand had rested in the middle of her back. "You looked cold."
"Well... not really. But thank you anyway."
That hand had slipped again, leaving Kyo's arm across her back as he easily pulled her into a hug.
Poof.
Tohru hugged the orange cat, rubbing her cheek against his soft fur. Until Kyo was ready to tell her what was really on his mind, she would just have to be there for him.
And neither of them could really complain about it.
